2 Day Dinosaur Trail Adventure Tour

2-Day Tour from Calgary through Drumheller-Badlands and Dinosaur Provincial Park with overnight in Drumheller and return to Calgary.

Tour will take you through the vast Alberta's Prairies to see Horseshoe Canyon, North Dinosaur Trail, North Dinosaur Trail.

You will also visit Royal Tyrrell Museum of Paleontology, Atlas Coal Mine Museum and Dinosaur Provincial Park and enjoy a delicious country buffet complete with live musical entertainment at Rosebud Dinner Theatre.

Highlights of the Tour:

Day 1 (approx. 350 km)

  • Enjoy a scenic informative drive through the vast Alberta's Prairies - The word prairie usually refers to a type of grassland
  • A stop at the spectacular Horseshoe Canyon for an interpretive talk and photo opportunity. Horseshoe Canyon is a region of badlands surrounded by prairie. This Canyon, which Indian's once believed to be haunted offers one of the most spectacular scenes in the area. The canyon which gets it's name from it's horseshoe shape is approximately 3 kilometres long extending from Highway 9 to Kneehill Creek area
  • Adventure in the Past through the world renowned Royal Tyrrell Museum of Paleontology - It is known the world over as an outstanding paleontology museum and research facility. It is named in honor of Joseph Burr Tyrrell (1858-1957). It was opened in 1985 and given "royal" status as a significant resource by Queen Elizabeth II in 1990. Its mission is to preserve, protect, present and interpret paleontological history, with special reference to Alberta's extensive fossil heritage
  • North Dinosaur Trail - Including: The Little Church, Oil Field, Crossing Red Deer River by Bleriot Ferry and beautiful Orkney Viewpoint of Valley - only from June to September
  • The Dino 2000 - world's largest dinosaur
  • Lunch at Fred and Barney's Restaurant in the Drumheller
  • Check-in at the Bed & Breakfast Accommodation in Drumheller
  • Tour the town site and have time to do a little shopping
  • Rosebud Dinner Theatre - Enjoy a delicious country buffet complete with live musical entertainment before heading over to the Opera House for one of the famous Rosebud theatre productions: the perfect getaway destination for an exciting evening out or an entire weekend of relaxation. Or evening meal we can have out in the town or Last Chance Saloon - Great music, cold beer, and hot food - what more could you ask for? Your choice!

Day 2 (approx. 350 km)

  • Breakfast time and after checking-out
  • Morning swing on the Suspension Bridge over the Red Deer River - has a total length of 724 km and got its name form the translation of Was-ka-soo which means "elk river" in the Cree
  • Carry on to the geological wonders of the Hoodoo's for another great view and a 10 to 15 minute hike
  • Visiting Atlas Coal Mine Museum - and view the old mining site. Built in 1936, the tipple is a coal loading and sorting machine. At over 40 feet tall the tipple now serves as a reminder of the rich mining history of the Drumheller Valley. Old mining equipment, including a working 1936 battery powered locomotive and several buildings including the wash house, supply house, lamp house, and mine office still stand at the site
  • Dinosaur Provincial Park - UNESCO World Heritage Site is most fascinating and diverse landscapes-the severely eroded Badlands. DPP is one of the most abundant sources of fossils in the world. (May 11 to Oct. 7)
